Media Liaison

The Dark Data Project is seeking a volunteer Media Liaison to work with journalists and media organizations on broadening awareness of dark data as it pertains to social and scientific issues in the world around us. As our Media Liaison, you'll meet, develop relationships with, and acquire expertise from experts in a variety of fields. You'll work closely with internal team members and external partners to conceptualize narratives and case studies, and assist journalists with background research on initiatives undertaken by The Dark Data Project. This is an autonomous and high-profile role within our growing organization, and is a good fit for someone with a passion for people, communication and journalism.
Part-Time Volunteer Remote

Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop relationships with journalists and media organizations, and work with them on coverage related to dark data.
  • Author proposals, case studies, presentations and other short narrative pieces.
  • Work with our various partners to understand and communicate the issues that relate to dark data.
  • Maintain our media CRM and public bibliography.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a journalist, or working with journalists
  • Exemplary writing skills, with a particular focus on brevity and relavancy.
  • Exemplary verbal communication skills
  • Methodical, structured and organized in all activities
  • Comfortable working autonomously and remotely, with minimal guidance

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Media Liaison is of particular benefit to understanding the scope of the role
